Day 2: Hey Life, Why Do Strangers Become My Best People?

A few years ago, life introduced me to someone extraordinary. I met a girl—just one girl—but she was nothing like anyone I’d ever known. She had these thick, high-powered lenses on her glasses, which magnified her curious, expressive eyes. Her spirit? Well, let’s just say she had the mentality of a boy but the heart and wings of a girl.

“Is she something different?” you might ask. Yes, she is. And I call her Tom Boy. Not because she isn’t a girl, but because her essence is free, bold, and unapologetically unique. Her style—dressing like a boy, her mannerisms, and her behavior—defied every stereotype you’d associate with a girl. There wasn’t a trace of traditional femininity in her attitude, yet she carried a charm and beauty that were unmatched.

Tom Boy is more than beautiful—she is radiant. She is cute, ambitious, and full of dreams, with an innate ability to craft her own world. And here’s something truly fascinating: she’s a supernatural artist. Her creativity flows effortlessly, and her imagination paints life in colors I never knew existed.

But why am I telling you all this? Because she is my best friend, my anchor, my safe harbor. From the moment she entered my life, she carved out a space so special and irreplaceable that it feels like she’s always been a part of me. She’s been with me through every storm, every sunny day, every moment of despair, and every burst of joy.

At first, she was a complete stranger. In fact, I ignored her when we first met. I was distant, acting with the high-handed attitude of someone who didn’t want to be bothered. But something changed within three days. Yes, just three days. She shattered every misconception I had, softened my guarded heart, and proved that she was different—not in the way people feared different, but in the way that draws you in like a magnet.

I’m naturally a judgmental, vibes-oriented person. It’s not easy for me to open up to people until I’m convinced they’re good for my mental peace. But Tom Boy? She swept past those defenses effortlessly.

Dear Tom Boy, you are my healer, my doctor, my confidant. You know me better than anyone—better than my own parents. You’re the best listener, the most motivating friend, a brilliant artist, and above all, a wonderful human being.

We shared countless moments together in Bangalore, weaving memories that made the city more than just a place—it became a canvas of our friendship. From Commercial Street to Church Street, from the lively nights at Drunken Daddy Pub to those unplanned night walks under the city lights, and from sitting by the side corner of Garuda Mall until eleven at night under a palm tree, every moment was magical.

But then, our Bangalore life hit a pause. For her career and studies, she had to leave the city—and me. I remember that day vividly, the day she boarded her bus at Kalasipalya Bus Station. As I stood there, watching her leave, tears rolled down my cheeks. It felt as if a part of me was slipping away, something irreplaceable. That moment was heavy, and the silence screamed of loss.

And yet, true friendship never ends. She may have left Bangalore, but she never left my life. She texts me, calls me, and with every conversation, our bond grows stronger. Even though we’re miles apart, it feels like we’re living those same old memories—laughing, walking, sharing, and being together in spirit.

Whenever I think about her, I feel the echoes of those vibrant days—her laughter, her quirks, and her unwavering presence. I miss her deeply. I miss the way we used to sit and talk as if the world outside didn’t exist. I miss the little traditions we created together, and the way she made even the simplest moments unforgettable.

She was once my solitude, my unknown stranger. Today, she’s my Tom Boy—the best thing life gave me when I wasn’t even looking. And no matter how far she goes, she’ll always have a special place in my heart. Some bonds are too strong to break; they only grow stronger with time.
